KNOWLEDGE LEVELS AND ATTITUDES OF INTERNISTS ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERIODONTAL DISEASE AND DIABETES

AIMS: Periodontitis is a multifactorial, chronic inflammatory disease that can cause irreversible damage to the supporting tissues surrounding teeth and consequently tooth loss if left untreated, has been listed as sixth major complication of diabetic patients. The aim our study was evaluate knowledge levels attitudes internists about relationship between periodontal diabetes. METHODS: In study, questionnaire with 22 questions applied via whatsapp®, e-mail directly. Participants were asked specific complications they believed patients diagnosed diabetes more susceptible to, their awareness bidirectional diseases evaluated. 112 answered (45% male, 55% female) questionnaire. RESULTS: 70% participating in survey are ages 25-35. 92.7% know department diagnoses treats gingival periodontology clinic. Despite this, only 72.7% refer bleeding 58.4% reported did not learn systemic health during medical school education, 89% stated effect on should be explained education. CONCLUSIONS: Periodontal thought share common pathogenesis includes increased response at local levels, it known there relationship.
